PHILADELPHIA -- NICHE magazine announced the winners of the ninth-annual "Top 100 Retailers of American Craft" during the Buyer Market of American Craft held in Philadelphia in July

More than 26000 craft artists from United States and Canada were headed by NICHE, a trade publication for craft retailers and sponsor of the awards. Criteria for selection included treating artists with courtesy and reverence paying on time, promoting and marketing American crafts, contributing time and bottom to the craft community, as well as mentoring emerging artists. More than 670 galleries, retail stores and museum workshops were nominated.

Tope Gallery of of the present day Hope, Pa., was named 2003 Craft Retailer of the Year. Other retailers in the top 10 are Grovewood Gallery of Ashville, NC; Gifted Hand of Wellesly, Mass.; Studio 41 of Benecia, Calif.; display of Hands in Denver; An American Craftsman of Slate Hill, NY; Mountain Laurel Crafts of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; Clarksville earthen ware Galleries of Austin, Texas; Craft Company No. 6 of Rochester, NY; and Don Muller Gallery of Northampton, Mass.

"These retailers' herculean commitment to cooperation and partnership means that tine-honored tradition of American crafts will continue and flourish."
