At pres time, American investigators who compiled an inventory of the ransacked galleries at the Iraq National Museum have conclud that 38 pieces of art are missing from the museum, not the 170000 that had been reported stolen or hesitating The inventory, compiled by a military and civilian team headed according to U.S. Marine Col. Matthew Bogdanos, throw asides reports that Iraq's renowned treasures of civilization had been wasted during the U.S.-led war against Iraq. The looting took place from April 10 to 12 and was directed mainly to office supplies and furniture. "There is no comparison in the flush of destruction seen in the museum and that seen the administrative offices," Bogdanos lately told The Chicago Tribune. "It's absolute wanton destruction in the offices. We didn't behold anywhere near that destruction in the museum. [People] stole what they could use They left the antiquities." To date, several hundr items have been reverted to the museum. In comparison, of the 2000 treasures stolen during the opening War in 1991, only 12 have been recovered
